The
main ingredient of all our products is stone wool, made from natural
rock such as diabase and dolomite. Using a special method, the stone is
melted and spun into fibres, which are then pressed, shaped and cut
into ceiling panels. Stone wool is an inorganic material that is
resistant to attack by vermin, bacteria, mildew and fungi. It is also
non-flammable and is therefore used for fire insulation and similar
purposes. It is thermally stable to temperatures in excess of 1,000ºC,
which is the temperature reached after around two hours on the standard
fire curve. The front and back faces are covered with a layer of
various types of glass fibre, while the edges are coated with a
water-based paint.
These treatments improve the handling characteristics of the panels and
their environmental stability. The panels are cut with a water saw to
minimise wastage and dust. Paints and adhesives that are used in
production are water-based. Parafon ceiling panels are supplied in
cardboard boxes, shrink-wrapped on to pallets.
